Just some of the facts I don’t know

It amazes me that people think I am an adult and not just an overgrown child with wrinkles and extensive collagen loss. I have not yet embraced the formality of sitting on a chair when there is space on the floor, I often celebrate the fact I can eat cereal for dinner and donuts for lunch, I still look for the adults in a room when I am feeling scared and I am continually surprised I am the one meant to make dinner, let alone know all the answers.

There is so much l have yet to learn, not just the valuable life lessons, the finding of wisdom and inner peace and all the important stuff other adults talk about, I mean some very basic things which I just don’t know

✔️ I don’t understand how electricity works like how it gets into my house and makes the lights come on when I press a small button on the wall. The same thing with internet

✔️ Satellites, and while I’m on that subject I also don’t get GPS but I think the two may be related because I have dozed off while hearing the two discussed together

✔️ Where does bronzer go? Does it replace blush? Is it related to blush? Could it be illuminator? Doesn’t foundation just cover all that stuff or is your face skin meant to be multiple colours?

✔️ Why am I being told to buy makeup that makes me glow and then another product to take away the shine?

✔️ I don’t know how to apply make up like a grown up

✔️ I don’t know how to hand wash clothes. I mean I know how to do it, I just don’t know how to get the soap out of the fabric without using most of the planet’s water

✔️ I am also not very good at mopping floors. The first sweep is good but then I am just swishing dirty water around the floor sure that I have missed something important. Related — I do not know how to squeeze a mop.

✔️ How do the people who work on the roads know what to do every morning when they get to work on a different stretch of road and in that vain, how do teams of builders get together and create giant skyscrapers?

✔️How does water get into taps?

✔️ Basically any building or engineering feat

✔️ I don’t know how to fold a fitted sheet although I have wasted an inordinate amount of time watching instructional videos

✔️ I have cooked spaghetti over 7 000 times but still don’t know how to estimate the correct portion size

✔️ I do not know how to play almost any sport. I come from a long line of non sport enthusiasts (actually just a mother who did not believe in extra mural activity) and have never had a single lesson in any sport. In adulthood I have found sport rules to be particularly boring

✔️ My son has just finished school and being given his (very excellent) university selection rank I still don’t understand how the whole system works. I especially don’t understand the ATAR.

✔️ I don’t understand or know anything about the planetary system and tides and the earth’s rotation. I don’t even remember the pneumonic to remember the order of the planets

✔️ I don’t know how long I should go on writing this list because I fear I could go on for hours

Maybe I still have time to learn. Now if only I could get the inclination.
